In this lecture ´´ Energy Conversion: Mitochondria ´´ is explained. Section one is about ‘‘Powerhouse of Cell’’. In the start of this lecture, the evolution of mitochondria and chloroplasts is explained. After that, the chemiosmotic coupling and its stages are highlighted. Next comes the electron movement through protein complexes. In the end, electron carriers for mitochondria are elucidated.
Section two is about '' Structure”. Firstly, the prerequisite for evolution of complex animals is comprehensively explained. Following this, the inner membrane and outer membrane is demonstrated and discussed in detail.
Machinery for Electron Transport and ATP Synthesis
Section three is about '' Machinery for Electron Transport and ATP Synthesis ''. Initially, the machinery for electron transport and ATP synthesis is reported. The inner membrane cristae are also introduced in this section. Next comes the citric acid cycle and the production of NADH in the matrix. Lastly, educator gives an overview about the matrix of mitochondria.
Section four is about '' Cellular Metabolism”. Initially, the educator discusses how integrins cluster to form strong adhesions. This section also explains the process of recruitment of scaffolding and signalling proteins. After that, the controlling of cell proliferation and survival is demonstrated. Lastly, anchorage dependence is focused by the educator.
Section five is about “Energy Storage”. In the start of this section, coupling of oxidation energy to ATP production is explained. After that, the energetically favourable reaction is demonstrated. Moving forward, the energy from oxidation stored as electrochemical gradient is pursued. The net result of electron transport chain is also elucidated in this section. In the end of this lecture, the consequences of transmembrane movement of H+ ions are focused.
