Overview and Classification
In this lecture ´´ Gastric Function Tests´´ are explained. Section one is about “Overview and Classification”. In the beginning of this session a chemical examination of gastric contents is performed. The chief constituents of gastric juice are then explained by the educator. This follows by a brief discussion about errors in collection of samples.
Examination of Resting Contents
Section two is about ‘’ Examination of Resting Contents “. In this section, the examination of the resting contents is performed based on volume, consistency and color. The educator then demonstrates the examination in blood, mucus and bile and concludes the session by explaining the free and total acidity and organic acids.
Fractional Gastric Analysis
Section three is about ‘‘Fractional Gastric Analysis”. GEBT Test procedure is elaborated at the start of this session. After that, the test meals and sample collection is explained. The educator then discusses the results and interpretation of these tests with the analysis of Hyperchlorhydria, Achlorhydria and Achylia Gastrica.
Section four is about ‘Stimulation Tests’’. This session revolves around different stimulation tests including caffeine and alcohol stimulation. The educator then talks about the histamine stimulation test. In the end, insulin stimulation test is explained.
Section five is about “Pepsinogen”. Serum pepsinogen is explained in the start of this session. Tubeless Gastric Analysis is demonstrated by the educator, who then concludes the lecture by explaining the clinical significance of these screening tests.
