Lecture´s Description

In this video lecture, the educator explains about the muscle. The word muscle is derived from the Latin word ‘Mus’ which means a ‘mouse’. The basic functions of muscles are movement, maintenance of Posture, Production of Heat. 4 unique characteristics of Muscle Tissue are excitability, contractibility, elasticity and extensibility. Based on function two types of muscles are there Voluntary and involuntary.

Skeletal Muscles are elongated cells, non-branching and multi nucleated. Smooth muscle is non-striated and long, spindle shaped cells. Cardiac muscle is striated muscle and short cylindrical cells. There are three layers of connective tissues Collagen fibers and Elastic Fibers. The size of the muscle fibers are very long up to mm to many cm and diameter is 10-100 um.

nerve supply of a skeletal muscle enters at the neurovascular hilum. The lymphatic drainage of muscles begins as lymphatic capillaries in epimysial and perimysial, but not endomysial, sheaths.>span > Axon terminal, Motor end plate, Synaptic trough/ gutter, sub neural cleft, presynaptic membrane, postsynaptic membrane, synaptic cleft and basal lamina are the parts of Neuromuscular Junction.
