Pituitary Gland and Hormones
In this lecture ´´Pituitary Hormones´´ is explained. Section one is about ´´Pituitary Gland and Hormones´´. The pituitary gland is a tiny organ, the size of a pea, found at the base of the brain. Mechanism for control of secretion of hormones are discussed. In the next slide modulation of pituitary hormones by hypothalamus is covered. Educator also gives the importance to hypothalamic releasing factors.
Hormones of the Anterior Pituitary
Section two is about ´´Hormones of the Anterior Pituitary´´. Educator explained various hormones of the anterior pituitary. Growth hormone also known as somatotropin is the core emphasis in this section. Chemistry, metabolic role, protein synthesis, lipid metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism of growth hormone are reported here in detail. Moreover, normal and abnormal effect on growth of bones and cartilages is described. Then prolactin action is covered. Growth hormone has a sequence homology with prolactin. Finally, ion or mineral metabolism is concluding discussion.
Pituitary Tropic Hormones
Section three is about ‘’Pituitary Tropic Hormones’’. Here educator discussed different hormones and their metabolic role. Initially, tropin or tropic hormone is described. In the next slide prolactin and its metabolic role is discussed. Then thyrotropic hormone or thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and its metabolic role is pursued. After that adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) or corticotropin is explained. Metabolic role of this hormone is also discussed in detail. In the last slide pituitary gonadotropins are under discussion.
Section four is about ‘’Gonadotropins’’. Earlier in this section metabolic role of follicle-stimulating hormone is delivered. Next slide focus on role of FSH in spermatogenesis. Then metabolic role of LH and action of LH in ovulation is explained. Moving onward, endorphins and encephalins is described. After that formation of endorphins and types of endorphins are highlighted. Hormone of middle lobe of pituitary are the culminating discussion.
Hormones of Posterior Pituitary Lobe
Section five is about ‘’Hormones of Posterior Pituitary Lobe’’. Posterior pituitary hormones are synthesised in neurosecretory neurons. Educator tells the metabolic role of vasopressin and its clinical importance. Metabolic role of oxytocin also comes under consideration. Then galactobolic effect is explained and lastly uterine effect is focused.
