Lecture´s Description

General Organization
In this lecture ´´Autonomic Nervous System´´ is explained. Section one is about ´´General Organization´´. Educator gives an overview of autonomic nervous system. Next is the illustration of general organization of ANS. Then physiological anatomy of sympathetic nervous system is presented. This is followed by organization of sympathetic nervous system. Furthermore, preganglionic and postganglionic sympathetic neurons are elaborated. Afterwards, educator gives information on segmental distribution of sympathetic nerve fibers. At last, physiological anatomy of parasympathetic nervous system is focused.

Characteristics
Section two is about ‘’Characteristics’’. Educator’s first theme of discussion is cholinergic and adrenergic fibers. After that transmitter secretion and removal at postganglionic endings comes under consideration. Then synthesis, destruction and duration of action of ACh is discussed. This is followed by synthesis, removal and duration of action of norepinephrine. Moreover, receptors on effector organs are explained. Lastly, receptor action is pursued.

Excitatory and Inhibitory Action
Section three is about ‘’Excitatory and Inhibitory Action’’. At first, educator discusses types of acetylcholine receptors. After that nicotinic and muscarinic receptors are focused. Then adrenergic receptors are elucidated. Lastly, excitatory and inhibitory action of SNS and PNS are explained in detail.

Function of Adrenal Medullae
Section four is about ‘’Function of Adrenal Medullae’’. The very first slide of this section is the elucidation of adrenal medulla. Then function of adrenal medullae is discussed. Moving onward, sympathetic and parasympathetic tone is reported. This is followed by sympathetic system response. After that specific localized responses comes under consideration. “Alarm” or “Stress” response of SNS is pursued later on. Medullary, pontine and mesencephalic control is the last subject of discussion of this section.

Effect of Drugs
Section five is about ‘’Effect of Drugs’’. In the beginning of this section, sympathomimetic drugs are explained. Next focus is on drugs blocking adrenergic activity. After that drugs acting on cholinergic effector organs are discussed. Subsequently, drugs stimulating autonomic postganglionic neurons are reported. Finally, ganglionic blocking drugs are pursued.
